"Justice" was special from the moment he was born into my hands. He always had a way about him, a sense of purpose and place, that seemed uncanny. Dignified yet playful, intelligent and silly, patient, devoted and true.
Justice has gone to the Bridge. He was diagnosed with cancer- surrounding his liver, of a type that would have made surgery and recovery impossible. He spent the last year of his life in retirement in Oregon, on twenty acres of vineyard when at home, and on his own bed in the family rv on the frequent trips they took. Every photo I received showed a ridiculously happy dog, gazing with love on 'his' children, his new charges, his beloved duty.
Justice touched many lives. As a breed ambassador, he attended numerous public events, showing all the world the best side of the breed. He posed for thousands of photos with kids at the Cow Palace and America's Pet Expo and so many other events. As a show dog, he impressed the spectators with his sound movement and flashy color. As a therapy dog, he visited hospitals and convalescent homes, and put in more than one hundred hours enriching the lives of the ones who needed him the most.
One wonderful junior handler knicknamed him 'training wheels'...his easy going nature and willingness to please made him a great practice dog for juniors. I'd come back to my set up to find she'd taken him out again to go help other kids learn. Those memories of Justice and Nener will always be special in my heart.
He made me proud. He made me laugh. He was everything I could have asked for and more. He was my angel- and he always will be.
I am thankful to his friends the Chapmans for giving him this last year withthem and their three children, full of love and joy and purpose.
I'll miss you red-man. I'll see you again.
Messages from our friends.....
I am so sorry to hear about Justice. I'm deeply saddened. He was magnificent, just an amazing, amazing dog and a true credit to the akita world. I have always thought so fondly of him because I viewed him as our introduction into the akita world. I recall seeing him at the Cow Palace and it was solely through his demeanor, his presence, his calm dignity that we fell in love with the akita.
I know it doesn't lessen the pain and sadness, but I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that Justice lives on through the puppies he sired. In our case, Joji is everything we could have dared to hope for and more.
She's calm, gentle, dignified and loving. And we have always attributed these wonderful characteristics to having been sired by such an exceptional dog -Justice.
